Can you use corningware stovetop
I just found this thread and topic. Maybe someone will see this and can help. I am interested in buying a vintage Corning Ware bake and broil tray. They appear to be made of Pyroceram. I saw several on eBay. One has a coil pattern on the bottom. The others are plain white.
Does anyone know about the coil pattern? If that is a safety feature or if it heats up. Is the coil pattern painted or does it appear to be embedded just under the surface and fills almost the entire floor of the dish? The ones that you can use on the stovetop feel like glass, and the others have that firing ring mentioned above. The older ones do not have the coil. Gary, I saw the photo on an eBay offer. The dark coil design is as you describe.
It takes up the entire under surface, looks to be under the glaze, and the ends look like plug-ins. Thanks for responding. I saw so many of the broiler pans, including some electric, and some for reheating, and several with chipped corners, that I gave up for now. Too confusing and if the sharp squared corners tend to chip, it would not work well for me. One website is bluecornflower.
You should post a picture here. Was there a name for the dish? I recall something like that where you would heat microwave? I had one but my cat destroyed it. Your cat? I won't ask! I saw the dish that goes into the microwave on an interview with Marie Smith on you tube.
It was made in She was on a morning show in Tampa Bay. She wrote Microwave Cooking for One. I was gifted the butterscotch and daughter used that at University.
I Have several French white. My girls now have all the extras I do not use anymore. They still are trying to get the large baking pan. Good luck girls! I know that sometimes things burn and I went through that but re-read the directions and once the product starts to heat up you turn down your stove. I use mine to cook in the microwave all the time. If anything sticks to the CW, leave overnight with baking soda and it will be easier to clean!

Pyrex glass or borosilicate dishes, pans and other bakeware products can be used in preheated ovens but should not be used on top of any stove, including ceramic cooktops.
It was recommended for stovetop cooking on conventional and glass cooktops using low to medium temperatures, and for dishes that contained a significant amount of liquid. Since CorningWare holds heat so well, it could cook foods on lower temperatures, which saved energy. It is unsafe to use corning ware on the stove top and broiler. If you will do so, then it can cause breakage in the corning ware cook wares.
