Where is sketch in photoshop cs6

To create our main sketch effect, all we need to do is apply some blurring to this layer. To do that, click on the Radius slider at the bottom of the dialog box and begin slowly dragging it towards the right to apply a slight amount of blur. Keep an eye on the image as you drag and you'll see it beginning to look more and more like a sketch.

Don't drag too far, though, as too much blurring will make it look like a photo again. A little blurring is all we need. There's no specific Radius value to choose here since it will depend both on the size of your image and on what you think looks best. For me, I'll set my Radius value to around 12 pixels:. Click OK when you're done to accept your setting and close out of the Gaussian Blur dialog box.

Here's my result:. As I mentioned a moment ago, one of the great benefits of applying a filter as a Smart Filter is that we can easily go back and edit its settings later if needed. If at any point you feel your sketch effect could use a bit more fine-tuning, simply double-click directly on the words Gaussian Blur to re-open its dialog box and re-adjust the Radius value:.

We've created our main sketch effect, but it's a bit too light. Let's darken it, and we can do that using a Levels adjustment layer. In the Adjustments panel again, click on the Levels icon second icon from the left, top row :. The controls and options for the Levels adjustment layer appear in the Properties panel, but we don't actually need them. Instead, to darken our sketch effect, all we need to do is change the blend mode of the Levels adjustment layer from Normal to Multiply :.

The Multiply blend mode is one of the five most commonly used blend modes in Photoshop , and simply by changing the Levels adjustment layer to Multiply, we've managed to darken the sketch effect quickly and easily:. If you find that your sketch is now too dark, you can brighten it back up by lowering the opacity of the Levels adjustment layer.

You'll find the Opacity option directly across from the blend mode option at the top of the Layers panel. At this point, the basic sketch effect is complete, but if you want to bring back some of the photo's original color, you'll want to continue on with these last few steps. The gaussian blur also does nothing but blur the color-dodged image. Any help for Elements 8 here?

Hi Arome, Thanks for your comment. Let me know in the comments if there is anything, in particular, you would like a tutorial about.

Thanks for helping, I am a beginner too, used this on a pretty complex photo, had to ramp up the blur but I love it! Thanks again! Please as helen asked above, Is there any way to change to colour of the drawing, to say for example, give the effect of using a coloured pencil? The result I have does not look like a pencil drawing at all. Rather it looks like a photo with color and some shadows removed.

Increasing the Blur makes it look like a more grayscale picture. Is it me or the software? Never used photoshop before and I managed it. All apart from the dodge and burn tools as Im using laptop with limited mouse manoeuvrability. Hi there, thanks for this great tutorial and the follow-up to add colors. Great June, though there are a few online photo conversions to sketch available, they never have the full image conversion, meaning the image result that they give is of either much less image size or does not give the required effect.

What an amazing job. Which of the several versions of Photoshop has this feature? I do not want to buy a program, install it, and find I need something else. You can always download a free Photoshop trial to test it in the version you are thinking of buying.

Tutorial is good. Hope to see such more wonderful tutorials. It was a great experience! Loved doing it. Will appreciate such more tutorials. Pl provide links. It will certainly help me add value to our mag. Thanks for your great tutorial. I am a first time user of Photoshop, I never had any contact with it until 2 hours ago and had to do a vector drawing turned out pretty good with practice I am sure I will get better..

Do you at some point recombine the layers? I have seen similar directions that had me merge down at some point. This is fantastic! It depends on what you are trying to make but a simple way of making an animated gif with this effect would be to use this process on each frame. This is brilliant! Keep continuing. Thank you.. You can save the image as it is as a layered.

Or you can choose to flatten the image into 1 layer and save as a. Hope that helps. Can you clarify exactly what you do with Color dodge and color burn when you combine them? The image never converted to black and white even though my controls said I was working with the inverted copy. Should I invert the inverted copy? Photoshop is a design software made by Adobe Inc. Thanks so much! Lauren Cioffi Hi there! Fill or stroke a path with color. See Fill paths with color. Designate a saved path as a clipping path to make part of an image transparent when exporting the image to a page-layout or vector-editing application.

See Create transparency using image clipping paths. When you work with the shape or pen tools, you can draw in three different modes. You choose a mode by selecting an icon in the options bar when you have a shape or pen tool selected. Shape Layers. Creates a shape on a separate layer. You can use either the shape tools or the pen tools to create shape layers. Because they are easily moved, resized, aligned, and distributed, shape layers are ideal for making graphics for web pages.

You can choose to draw multiple shapes on a layer. A shape layer consists of a fill layer that defines the shape color and a linked vector mask that defines the shape outline. The outline of a shape is a path, which appears in the Paths panel.

Draws a work path on the current layer that you can then use to make a selection, create a vector mask, or fill and stroke with color to create raster graphics much as you would using a painting tool. A work path is temporary unless you save it.
